How to Choose a Restaurant Featured in the Michelin Guide

Understand the difference between being listed and being starred, then check menu and booking terms.

A listing is not the same as a star

The Michelin Guide includes restaurants across different distinctions. Being featured in the guide does not necessarily mean a venue has a Michelin star.

Read the specific distinction shown for each place. Reputation alone cannot tell you whether a venue suits your budget or occasion.

Look at the cuisine and format

Check the restaurant's cooking style and whether it offers a tasting menu, à la carte dining or a special experience.

A long multi-course dinner and a shorter business meal call for different choices, even when both restaurants are well regarded.

Understand the full commitment

Dining length, drinks, menu prices and optional extras can vary significantly. Ask the venue about anything important that is not clearly described.

A limited-date experience may have different prices and booking terms from the regular restaurant.

Booking availability is separate

A guide listing does not guarantee a table on your date. Availability, party-size limits, deposits and cancellations are set by the venue.

If your preferred time is unavailable, consider another date or party size, and verify whether your booking is confirmed.
