Restaurant payment gateway and your own virtual POS

Understand how Rezervem Pay connects a restaurant's virtual POS with payment requests, and what to check before taking deposits or card holds.

Contactless payment in a restaurant service setting

What this means for the venue

Rezervem Pay connects eligible virtual POS providers with restaurant payment requests, prepayments and card holds. A payment gateway is not itself a bank or licensed payment institution; merchant ownership, currencies, transaction capabilities and fees follow the chosen provider agreement.

A real service scenario

Before a busy Saturday service, a restaurant may request a prepayment for a special menu. Instead of asking guests to transfer money and send receipts, staff can issue a payment request with clear terms and track the provider response.

For a table of four with a menu priced at TRY 1,000 per guest, a 50% prepayment would be TRY 2,000. A hold of the same amount is not collected revenue; it is an authorisation on the guest's card.

Where payments go wrong

With a restaurant-owned virtual POS, the crucial question is whether the transaction is processed under that venue's merchant agreement. Providers do not all support holds, partial refunds or currencies in the same way.

Submitting a POS connection request does not mean the connection has been approved or enabled for production. Staff should verify the venue's default provider and the status of its connection request.

Five practical checks

Use one genuine service scenario to verify the process before inviting guests to pay.

  • Identify the bank or payment institution and confirm whose merchant agreement is used.
  • Verify that an eligible virtual POS is configured and authorised for the selected venue.
  • Check which prepayment, authorisation, cancellation and refund operations the provider supports.
  • Before launch, test successful, failed and expired payment requests with approved test credentials.
  • Reconcile payment requests, collected bank transactions, provider charges and refunds separately.

How Rezervem handles the process

Rezervem Pay associates the request with a venue and configured virtual POS. Using the restaurant's own POS depends on provider setup and approval. Provider selection, connection requests and payment results are separate records.

Rezervem Manager tracks bookings, arrivals and no-shows while Pay tracks payment requests and related transactions. A reservation status alone is not proof of a completed bank collection.

FAQ: Can Rezervem Pay use our own virtual POS?

FAQ: Does a gateway mean all proceeds belong to Rezervem?

No. Merchant ownership and settlement depend on the selected POS provider agreement.
