Why authorisation, capture and refund have different statuses

Track card holds, captured payments and refunds separately to avoid giving guests the wrong status.

A hold is not the same as a captured charge

A pre-authorisation may reserve an amount on a payment card without transferring it as a final payment. Later capture, release and no-show handling depend on the authorised transaction type and the provider’s rules.

One booking may have multiple financial records

For example, a venue might place a hypothetical 1,000 TRY hold and issue a separate 600 TRY payment request. Review each transaction reference and type rather than reading the booking summary as a single bank movement.

Verify each financial event

Match the transaction type, amount, provider reference, date and any related refund in the authorised Pay or provider report.

  • Was this a hold or captured payment?
  • Has an authorisation release been recorded by the provider?
  • Is a refund requested or completed?

Avoid duplicate financial actions

Check the provider outcome before retrying a capture or refund. The time taken for released funds to reappear depends on the issuing bank and payment scheme; do not promise a fixed period.
